Argh, I think we're wandering off topic already. The original post
criticized LoGH, saying it has too many ships. Then somebody else
pointed out that when both sides have similar technology, fleet size
is important, that's why there're so many ships in the novel, which
I agree.
There're specialized guns designed for these combat situations, going
back to use swords is just not feasible. Even in Starwars, only Jedi
knights can use swords, the rest guys just use guns since using a
sword effective |

I don't usually call some software sucks, especially not OSS. But, man,
Maven 2 sucks big time. half of the time it doesn't even do what its
documentation says it's supposed to do.
I can't believe any software people can get so self-righteous as to dictate
that a war file must be generated during the "package" stage of building any
web application. Whatever happened to "an exploded web app works better
than a war?"

Yeah, that's what I thought the utopia called "maven2" would save us all
from, too, until the hard, cold reality dawned on me that I would actually
have to spend a lot of time wrestling with maven, or more accurately, all
those plugins with various quality, to get it to do things as _I_ like, not
as the _maven_people_ say I should like.
I know... didn't want to flame, just still haven't got over the frustration. |

and I feel manually copy all of them to be under eclipse project directory
no big deal.
These dependency resolving idea sounds great, but in reality, some of
our legacy code just wouldn't work with latest bouncy castle for example,
and at times I have a quick tweak of some OSS just to make it work, somehow,
I like the idea of full control.

It gets complicated when your application consists of multiple modules/
projects, some of which share 3rd party dependencies, and some depend on
each other. The ability to keep track of these dependencies becomes very
important in any build process handling this kind of project.

Well I was not really doing arbitrary things as in "I want to build a DLL
file using maven". The "arbitrary things" I was trying to do was like "I
want to copy these files from a directory other than src/main/resources", or
"I don't want to create a 50MB war file everything I run the build." Is
that too much to ask? 8-/ |

when I was really thinking "the Commerce Clause" -
probably because I had in the back of my mind that
the 14th Amendment also gave Congress basically carte
blanche power upon the States. |
