Survey: Managing Partners Losing Confidence in the Economy
The people who head up law firms are, understandably, a little anxious about
the economy, according to a survey out this week from Citi Private Bank.
As the European debt crisis continues to cast a pall over the global economy
, the overall confidence level of managing partners at 79 law firms fell
slightly during the second quarter of 2012, according to Citi. The bank,
which is among the largest law firm lenders, polled managing partner... 阅读全帖

Did George Washington Turn Down An Offer To Be A King?
The Story Behind the Myth
Grover Furr
Montclair State University
March 2007
Did anyone ever offer to make George Washington "king"?
The answer is: No. There is no evidence that this ever happened. But the
story, in various forms, has been around for a long time.
What is the origin of this story?
The best account of the origins and development of this myth is by Robert F.

Not sure where the "of course" part comes from. There are many Chinese
people working as patent agents, paralegals in law firms.
Borrow your words to answer your question, of course, yes.
I just did two onsite at two AmLaw 100 firms a couple weeks ago and turned
down both offers. HTH.

刚突然想看看IV是怎么运作的,查了IV的网站。
发现了他们比NIU高的地方
1. 他们是Non-profit Org。 NIU好像还不是。
2. 他们在后台出钱雇了一个公关公司帮助他们运作。“Immigration Voice has hired
Patton Boggs, a top public affairs firm, to help us reach our goals. Patton
Boggs brings a bipartisan, multi-disciplinary approach to helping clients
tackle public affairs challenges.”
简单查了一Patton Boggs背景,不查不知道,一查吓一跳,http://www.pattonboggs.com/about/Overview/

It's hard to find this type of statistics anywhere. It's difficult enough to
figure out the placement of my own class in law school, let alone all the

In general, there aren't many Chinese JDs to start with (in absolute numbers).
So far, most of the Chinese JDs I know have placed in AMLAW 100 firms, if

Prestigious firm. Strong in litigation, was AmLaw litigation department of
the year last year.
Interviewed with them last summer. The two junior associates whom I met both
looked like sh*t. And I can tell they didn't like their job. Most likely
they didn't have chances to work on the mega cases, but were stuck in doc
review, or things of that tedious nature. One associate hinted that he was
going to leave the firm. Just did a search. He is not there anymore.

BTW, is Jon Christianson, one of AmLaw dealmakers of year, her husband?

Yeah. It was just a guess. I didn't look at the table. Actually I used
not to pay much attention to those top firms, because they generally suck at
IP. Among the top-ranked GP firms, Jones Day has one of the best IP
practices.
PPP can be deceiving though. Only equity partners are included in the
calculation. Many firms keep adding income partners as a compromise between
retaining people they like and maintaining their high PPP to stay on top of
the AmLaw 100 list.

Hi LHand. No I didn't do anything fancy. I just googled "AmLaw top 100

rankings. Free registration might be required to access some of those
information.
You mentioned in the other thread that PPP could be deceiving as a proxy for
partner income because of the 2-tier partnership system. It is an
absolutely valid point. You might find the data on this page illuminating: http://www.law.com/special/professionals/nylj/2003/par

My two cents:
1) One L, a book by Scott Turow, gives you a basic idea of the life of a
first-year law student.
2) Vault 100 & AMLaw 100/200 lists, to get familiar with the names of the
law firms, if Big Law is your career goal.
3) "Getting to Maybe", or "law School Confidential", gives you some ideas of
the game played by law professors in class or in exam.
With respect to BarBri or PMBR, I don't recommend since first, you won't
understand much; second, memorization is not the key to get good gr

Got this from a group email:
Where Have All the Smart Girls Gone?
Does your daughter…
Demonstrate heightened sensitivity and empathy?
“Dumb herself down” or otherwise act inauthentic to fit in?
Dismiss her success, especially in math and science and amplify her “
mistakes” or “shortcomings”?
Try to cover up when she doesn’t know how to do something for fear of
looking bad?
If any of these sound familiar, the reason may be that your daughter is “
gifted”.
