纽扣最初问世时，只有富人的外套才钉纽扣。按当时的风俗，男士自己穿衣服，女士则
由仆人帮穿。女士衬衣上的扣子钉在左边，极大地方便了伺候女主人的仆人们(现在方
便男人脱)。男士衬衣的扣子在右边，除了自己穿衣服，还因为用右手方便拔出挂在左
腰的佩剑，这样就不容易被衬衫兜住。
◾为什么是上厕所、下厨房？
中国自古以来就有五行，五行分别对应五个方位。古代厕所建造在北面偏东的位置，厨
房要建造在南面偏东。去南方时，习惯说南下(皇帝下江南)，去北方时，习惯说北上(
北上抗日)。当要去厕所时要去院子的北面，所以说上厕所。当要去厨房时，要去院子
的南面，所以说下厨房。

下面是我女儿在高中三年级（2015-2016学年）选修高中《美国历史大学先修课》（AP
American History）时所写的学期论文（junior thesis）。本地高中学生一般公认高
中文科最具挑战的课程就是《美国历史大学先修课》。我女儿总体上比较爱好理工科课
程，对我这个文科专业的父亲来说，总觉得高中文科的课程也是极有意义的。然而我女
儿是一名多年参加体操俱乐部系统训练（每周要有20多小时的体操训练，还要加上外出
参加比赛的时间）的运动员，因此对选修这门阅读量很大的美国历史大学先修课程颇有
顾虑。我考虑到这门课程的对女儿的阅读，思维和写作都有很大帮助，就极力鼓励她选
修这门课程，并且“保证”如果学期成绩只能获得B也不会有所“责难”。最后女儿“
不知深浅”地选修了这门高中文科重头课程，即使在就读期间她还一直有点“耿耿于怀

老婆不上班会让老公因为失业而更容易自杀的数据。我听到的是老婆没有上班其实是家
里的一个“security net”。因为如果先生失业了，老婆可以出去工作。另外，美国对
有disability的人还是有Long Term Disability或Social Secuirty的保护的，失业的
有失业金可以拿一阵子。不太至于因为先生失业而走投无路吧。
我想stay-at-home的家庭一般家里虽然财政方面吃紧一点，但是生活节奏方面的压力会
小很多。这也是我为什么选择做全职太太/妈妈的主要原因。我老公现在习惯了我在家

修昔底德陷阱是指一个新崛起的大国必然要挑战现存大国，而现存大国也必然来回

据新加坡《联合早报》报道，美国东北暴风雪重灾区纽约地区的三大机场陆续重开，但一些着陆的飞机却没有登机门可用，有些乘客在机上等候近十个小时；由于取消的航班将近一万个班次，滞留机场的乘客恐怕要等到元旦才能全部离开。
时速约109公里的冰冷强风星期天晚上和星期一早上横扫大西洋沿岸地区。纽约三大机场肯尼迪、拉瓜迪亚和纽瓦克在关闭近24小时后，至当地时间星期一晚上才陆续重开。
但据九家美国航空公司提供的数据，自星期六以来，它们至少取消了灾区各大机场的9726个航班，其中的1335个航班是在星期二各机场渐渐恢复服务后取消的。
