I think I actually can prove my step 2 will return the longest subarray:
say A[i,j] have more 1s than 0s, to get the longest subarray, you will need
to trim from either head or tail:
when head and tail are not equal, trim the end with 1 -> this is obvious
when both head and tail are 1 or 0, we need to prove trimming from head or
tail are the same:
trimming from head we get: [[subsub]0]
trimming from tail we get : [0[subsub]]

There were more context in my original post:
when there are more 1s than 0s, when head and tail are not equal, trim end
with value 1.
when there are more 0s than 1s, when head and tail are not equal, trim end
with value 0.
So, not always trim the end with value 1. |

222 | 33 You have an array of 0s and 1s and you want to output all the intervals (i,
j) where the number of 0s and numbers of 1s are equal.
Example
index = 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8
array = 0 1 0 0 1 1 1 1 0
One interval is (0, 1) because there the number of 0 and 1 are equal. There
are many other intervals, find all of them in linear time.
How can this be done in O(n)??
find all intervals, not find the longest interval.
Thanks in advance. |
