when I opened it up today I found that the left speaker had melted. It
melted the plastic mesh that covers it.

I had the *exact* same problem with my new T410. I had mine for a week as
well and left it off overnight, but plugged in. When I woke up I noticed it
was a bit hot, and when I opened it up, part of the plastic mesh was melted.
