Analysis: Leaf spot and cane spot, also called septoria leaf spot, is a
plant disease caused by a fungus. The Fungus spends the winter on canes and
old leaves. In the spring, spores are produced during wet weather and spread
by splashing rain.
Solution: remove infected canes immediately after harvest, and destroy them.
Spray new canes with a fungicide containing captan or fixed copper three
times, when they are 6 inches, 12 inches and 2 feet long. After harvest and
training of new canes, spray with a fixed copper fungicide mixed with
horticultural oil, or apply a lime-sulfur spray. Spay once more with a fixed
copper fungicide before heavy fall rains begin. The following spring,
before new growth is 3/4 inch long, spray again with fixed copper or lime
sulfur. |
