突然转冷,就80%枝桠变干枯了.
直到今天,突然发现原来树干上有许多针孔大小的洞,每个洞超过一厘米深. 如果不仔细
注意的话,是不可能发现的.
问题: 这是怎么回事? 是一种特殊的虫子吗? 怎么处理来救活这个桃树? (住加州南湾)

OTHEB INSECT ENEMIES.
Pin Hole Borer.—There is considerable evidence in the orchards of this
State of the European beetle (Scolytus rugulosus) commonly called the pin
hole borer or fruit barkbeetle. It has become troublesome in recent years in
the Eastern States. The beetle is black and only a tenth of an inch long.
It bores a clean round hole like that made by a large pin through the bark
of the trunks or limbs of fruit trees. Fifty or a hundred such holes may
occur on a trunk severely attacked. The plum, peach and apricot are most
frequently attacked, but the cherry, pear, apple and quince are also likely
to be infected. The insect seems to prefer sickly trees and then materially
hastens its death or uselessness. There

is no remedy known but it is wise to burn up all dead wood of the orchard
promptly and similarly dispose of trees badly infested by this beetle. |
