the Mayfield Heights, OH Micro Center and they had Core i7 950 open-box CPUs
for $159.96+tax. This is B&M only, not online. There were several when I
was there, not sure if other stores have them.
New is $199.99+tax, which is still considerably cheaper than anywhere else
online. Newegg is still $294.99 free shipping. The open box item can be
returned within 30 days if it doesn't work, and the balance of Intel's
warranty still applies. That's pretty good insurance against a DOA cpu. The
worst that could happen is that the heatsink or manual won't be included,
and who needs those anyways... if it happens, buy an aftermarket cooler like
the Scythe Mugen with the money you save, and overclock to 4ghz.

Open-box definition:
The products marked as Open Box are products that have been returned to
Micro Center or may be products previously on display. Returned or open box
items may be missing non-essential parts - manuals, original packaging, etc.
- however they are still functional, working products. Because of the
nature of these products, it is possible that the condition of items will
vary when ordering more than one.
I know Sandy Bridge comes on January 7th or whatever but something tells me
that the price premiums at launch won't be worth the performance increase
over an OC'd 4ghz i7-950, but we'll see.
