I just signed up for the $30 prepaid plan. Have been on the pay as you go
tmoblie plan but my spending was about $55.00/month. So I just did the
switch using online chat with CS rep from tmobile.com.
Here is what he said, and I have not confirmed this, since it will take 2
hours for it to be activated:
- I could switch over from the pay as you go and the balance would carry
over. I had $93 left and he said that would be good for 3 months on the $30
plan
- he said THERE WERE NO TAXES!
- if I were to run over the 30MB limit, the data feature would be turned off
. The voice and sms would remain functional. I could then buy a day pass for
like $2 or something, but that would be throttled after 30MB as well.
- will work with any tmobile branded or unlocked GSM device
- uma should be enabled according to CS, and I don't see why not. this
should make up for tmobile's spotty coverage when near accessible wifi.
AFAIK minutes will still be deducted on uma
- it will work with older Blackberry that only has EDGE, (slow), or with 3G
- basically this includes 1500 combined text/talk (which is roughly 1500 min
talk or sms) and 30MB data.
Maybe not such a great deal for heavy users, but I think it will work for me
. Can't believe there are no taxes.

plan once you reach the 30MB you won't be able to use it anymore unless you
get our Day Pass for $1.49.
~CustService : If you have a Smartphone you should look at either the $50
or $70 plan.
~CustService : The $50 plan includes 100MB of Data and the $70 plan
includes 2GB of Data.
Zampano : even voice and texts? once I reach the 30mb limit the voice and
text are both shut off, too?
~CustService : No, you can still use the Voice & Text when you reach the
30MB.
Zampano : will it work with a edge blackberry or does it have to be 3g?
~CustService : It will work with either Blackberry.
Zampano : will uma be enabled? I have spotty coverage at times and this
would help?
~CustService : You should be able to use UMA.
Zampano : so should I use up my pay as go plan minutes and then switch to
monthly prepaid?
~CustService : We can change you over now if you would like.
Zampano : what do you think the taxes would be?
~CustService : You don't get charged taxes for any prepaid plans.
~CustService : With the new plan once you reach your 30MB limit and get the
Web Day Pass, once you hit 30MB with that you get throttled. The Web would
be even slower for the remainder of the day. If you continue to get the Day
Pass for the remainder of the month it would more expensive then going to
either the $50 or $70 plan.
Zampano : only beef I am having is lost sms messages to europe constantly
Zampano : I dont really need a whole lot of data. just email mostly
~CustService : Okay.
Zampano : so what would you need from me, to sign up for the $30 monthly
plan?
~CustService : I won't need anything, would you like me to make the change?
Zampano : does my current balance carry over? and then after that do I just
prepay monthly on the website?
~CustService : Your balance stays on the account and it would take the $30
out every 30 days. Since you have $90 in there, you should be good for about
3 months, but you should add more each month.
Zampano : ok. will the sms situation ever improve? a lot of my sms don't get
through to europe? are you guys working to improve that?
Zampano : I guess the sms will remain spotty
~CustService : Do you have any issues sending Text Messages in the uS?
Zampano : no never have issues in U.S.
Zampano : It works fine if I answer an sms from europe, but most that I
initiate from the u.s. to europe don't get through, even if they are on
tmobile over there.
~CustService : Okay, does it happen to one specific number or mulltiple
numbers?
Zampano : I only text to like 2-3 numbers over there, and it's the same
story with all of them
~CustService : Okay, other then making sure the number format is correct.
There isn't much that we can do as the Text Messages are travelling to the
other carrier.
Zampano : yes I know. well if you could switch me over to the $30 prepaid
monthly then? sms is not a huge deal, just a bit annoying
~CustService : Okay, I will make the change. The 1500 Talk & Text plan is
not 1500 Talk and 1500 Text Messages. It is 1500 combined Talk & Text.
Zampano : yes I understand that
~CustService : Okay, I will make the change now.
Zampano : and it's got 30mb data which isn't a lot I know, but I could
always upgrade right?
~CustService : Yes, you can change at a later time.
Zampano : ok cool
Zampano : so we are sorted? will I be able to figure out how to receive
email etc on the tmoblie website?
~CustService : I am just making the change right now. I will be about 5
minutes, would that be okay?
Zampano : yes that is fine. If I break my older blackberry, I could just buy
another one? if it is tmobile? or must I buy one of the prepaid phone
lineup? those are a bit lame?

purchase a new phone.
