Newegg, Adobe, etc.). Adobe has a policy of providing you a free upgrade to
the latest software if they announce/release the newer version shortly
after you had recently purchased an older version.
From their website:

http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/153/tn_15304.html
"You might be eligible for a complimentary upgrade if you bought your
software product (full or upgrade) soon after a new version was announced."
I had purchased a copy of Lightroom 3 Student/Teacher edition on February
22nd, 2012 and just called in and got my FREE upgrade to LR 4. What may be
even better is, it looks like the upgrade is NOT the Student/Teacher edition
.
I called into their sales line and they transferred me to their customer
service department. They asked for my serial number and first denied me
that the free upgrade wasn't available for student/teacher versions. I read
them the policy on their website and he looked it up and told me to hold on
. After holding, he came back and confirmed my shipping information and
said I should be getting the upgrade in 5-7 days.
Good luck everyone!
