I called Sony Support and they offered to fix it for $179, or REPLACE IT no
questions asked for a 160GB Slim PS3 for $99.
The rep said this offer is valid for ANY existing PS3, working or not and it
includes shipping your old PS3 (in a box provided by Sony), and the
replacement PS3 both ways. I was especially surprised that the turnaround
time from first call was only 8 days (with overnight shipping for each of
the steps).
