The HF3's have the volume control, mic, and pause/play/fwd/back buttons, and
it is mainly aimed at Apple devices because of the volume controls. It
works with non-apple devices for everything except volume which depends on
the device.
The HF2's are for Android/Windows Phone/Blackberry/etc, which means It just
doesn't have the volume controls. I have an Android phone, and have not
seen a reason not to just get the HF3's, they seem to work just fine, but
again, depending on which phone you have that isn't Apple, the volume
controls may not work.
I have owned a set of HF2's for a few years now, and they have been the
best fitting, best sounding, headphones I have used so far for portable use
(For under $200). I use them running, riding my bike, and when at work.
They are finally starting to show wear (rubber around the cord is coming off
) and I was going to go through their Out Of Warranty replacement, which in
itself is a good deal, when I found the Amazon deal.
Amazon's price on the Cobalt HF2 isn't quite as good, $119.99.
