to watching their movies:
The only video file types that the TouchPad will play out of the box are
MPEG-4, H.263, and H.264.
KalemSoft Media Player is the only app I've found that plays most any
standard media type (avi, divx, xvid, wmv, wma, mkv, etc.) It will play
directly from the device or stream from any PC with KalemSoft Media
Streaming installed. Tried it out earlier today and the speed/quality of
streaming video is pretty decent, even running wireless to my PC. You can
also live stream from any webcam on the installed PC, so maybe check in on
your house or spouse when you're away.

downloading it to a PC and transferring to/installing on TouchPad)

I just contacted KalemSoft about how discontinuing WebOS may affect their
product. They responded within the hour: "Just to let you know, we will keep
updating this product on the app catalog as long as HP keeps accepting
application updates. If not, we will release updates through our website."
