Subject: PRAYER: Jesus and Cell Phones
Dear Sparty,
“And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread and in prayers.” (Acts 2:42)
1. Praise God for all He did at the recent CAMP FOR INTERNATIONALS NEAR SACRAMENTO. Not only was this year’s group the biggest ever for this event, but Christians were challenged and several non-Christians indicated faith. For example…
· One of the “seekers” was a new student at UC Davis from South Korea. Prior to the camp, she lost her cell phone. Alvin, a Bridges staff leader, prayed she would find the phone and she did. Someone asked her at the camp to tell what she knew about Jesus and she said, “Oh, Jesus is the God of cell phones.” Her comment may sound irreverent, but she indicated faith in Christ the next night. Pray for her spiritual growth.
· The main speaker challenged believers to pray for five friends and text each before leaving the camp, offering to meet during the next week. Chris, a Christian student from South Africa, and Alan Dianich, a Bridges staff member, both thought of “Vu”— a student from Vietnam. They made an appointment to see him, and during that discussion Vu indicated faith in Jesus. Please pray for Chris as he seeks to guide Vu through a series of follow-up Bible studies.
2. EIGHT STUDENTS FROM FOUR NATIONS will meet near Kansas City this weekend to learn how to train other internationals in ministry skills. Later they will teach at one of Bridges’ winter conferences: Vision 2010 in Nashville or San Antonio, or Discover 2011 in Northern California. Ask God to use this weekend to prepare them to teach with confidence in the future.
3. An INTERNATIONAL BIBLE STUDY IN EUGENE, OREGON has been striking a positive chord with participating students, especially a Japanese seeker named Kazu. He purposely registered for no Friday classes this quarter—just so he could attend and fully enjoy these Thursday night Bible discussions! Please pray for Kazu and seekers like him to soon place faith in Jesus.
4. The fifth annual “INTERNATIONAL PRAISE FESTIVAL” AT THE
UNIVERSITY OF CENTRAL OKLAHOMA next Thursday will be a joint effort of
Bridges with several churches and other Christian groups. This free event is intended to celebrate global Christianity through international music, food, testimonies and cultural performances. Attendance has averaged 200 for the past few years, but please pray for 500 to fill the auditorium this year--and for 100 new participants to commit themselves to ministry involvement.
Praying with you,
Harriet Smith
