I found it a myth Saab's are hard to work on. I worked on my 9000 all the
time and help a friend with his OG93. Nothing can't be found with a 5min
search on Saabnet. If anything, they are easier to work on than the Acura's
and Toyota's I've owned before.
If you are in New England, no need to worry about it at all, plenty of
competent indy shops can work on Saab, with ABJ in Boston the best and my
most favorite shop for all car works.
Or, if he's really scared by the potential maintenance cost of a Saab, get a
Camry. I found it to be a very nice family car with much better build
quality than its American counterparts.

Yes it is. Having access to that shop is one of the biggest reasons I am
reluctant to leave Boston (they also work on all other European cars).
btw they even sponsor green card for experienced mechanics. A couple of
months ago I was in the shop to have a frozen caliper worked on and saw the
job ads posted for labor certificate, hehe.
