The boss offered me a department manager position (about 40 people in the
department) from an engineer, but there is no salary increase because of the
financial situation of the company.
Should I accept it? Thanks for advice.
This is career path change for me. I have been an engineer for the past 4
years.

一时的薪水高低算什么?career development 才是最重要的。管理40个人属于比较
高的manager了。积累两年经验如果salary没跟上跳槽就是了。下家在乎的是你的经验
和能力,你下一份工作赚多少钱跟你现在拿多少没太大相关。
要有远见,不要就盯着那点工资。

做manager有人事权,预算权,好好利用,把部门往对自己有利的方向发展,多请些能
干的老中,涨钱到年底review的时候再说

Sorry I cannot type chinese here.
It surely is a challenge for me to take a managerial path in my career.
Currently I only focus on projects that I am doing. Being a manager means a
hell lot of responsibility and also has to deal with difficult people in the
group.

what is a department manger? You can't be the manger for the whole
department of 40 people.
You'll need to figure out what do you actually manager first.

There are 4-5 sub-group in the department. I have seen that sometime a
manager can be segregated out if not involved in daily activities.

learning may also forfeit me my technical skills.

40个人应该有2-6个派系,
很可能LZ是大家勉强可以接受
的中立人士。
公司现在也是有点火线入党,
士气低落,TURNOVER高
所以才有这种机会。
建议:
1. 接受:
2. 搞清楚各个派系
3. 不求无功但求无过。
只说好话不说坏话。
学会耐心,听话里话,
不要轻易承诺,但是
要学会多传好话。

能够成功转型。
5. 要是需要裁员,LZ就得坚决
