It isn't that much different in the Theravada Buddhist world regarding
techniques of meditation. Each teacher will claim that his technique is
the purest, the deepest, the most effective, etc., while the methods of
the other teachers are wrong, shallow, ineffective, etc. So this is
human nature, not a particular fault of Mahayana Buddhism that is
lacking in Theravada Buddhism. The manifestations are different but the
underlying psychology is very similar.

If one has a strong desire to study and practice Buddhism in one's next
life, and a strong sense of refuge in the Triple Gem, this will act as a
supporting condition to enable one to meet the Buddha Dhamma in one's
next existence and keep on learning and practicing the Dhamma. But there is
no guarantee unless one is a sotapanna.
