How do you think of biologist killing mice to understand the truth of life?
In 2007, the Noble Prize winners (Mario R. Capecchi, Sir Martin J. Evans,
Oliver Smithies) for physiology are awarded "for their discoveries of
principles for introducing specific gene modifications in mice by the use of
embryonic stem cells". I am using this technology to tackle the biology
questions related to human disease and need kill lot of mice.

last resort, not out of convenience nor disrespect of life.

and some understood this to mean 'use them'.
Chinese culture has a more benign attitude with nature. Chinese medicine is
developed w/o much, if any, killing of living animals. I think culture attitude (and tacit assumptions) plays a role in the treatment of animal between Western and Eastern culture.
