about competition. The hiring process fo the majority of American employers
is 1) human resource screening resume for 10-15 candidates from over hundred
applicants ; 2) phone screening by hiring manager for 3-5 candidates for
onsite interview; 3) whoever perform the best of themselves during onsite
interview will be the winner. To be a winner, you will need patient,
confidence and experience of interview. Since you had been seleted for
onsite, you are actually not that bad! Here are my words for you to beat
your opponents.
1 searching and applying for jobs that match your education background and
working experience
2 preparing yourself very well(write down and memmorizing what you need to
say) for phone and onsite interviews. there are many standard questions and
answers on the web, you can pick those up and practice.
i. a short introduction (45 seconds, never be over a minute) about
yourself. the question usually likes this 'tell me something about yourself'
. Interviewer would like to see your language ability, your thinking and
logic.
ii. your knowledge and skills in your field comes big. this is why a
company is going to hire you and also big part of yourself. you need to
prepare what you need to say and how to present. lots of our chinese
students know a lot, but usually fail to present themselves well. so my
suggestion is only one, write down what you are going to say and practice.
When you present, making sure that your language and definition is clear and
confident.
iii. preparing yourself like a professional, showing confidence all over
the interview process, polite, personal manner and interpersonal skills.
Your confidence is so important. Never saying anything like 'I don't know, I
haven't done and don't know how to without following a clause.' your clause
can be 'I HAVE'T GOT A CHANCE TO BE EXPOSED TO SUCH FIELD, BUT I AM AN
ENTHUSIASTIC PERSON AND A QUICK LERRNER WHO BELIEVE HIMSELF CAN HANDLE THIS
TYPE OF PROBLEM QUICK.'
your personal manner is also important. DON'T INTERRUPT PEOPLE WHILE THEY
ARE TALKING; EYES CONTACT AND SMILING ALL THE TIME; DO NOT TALK WHILE YOUR
MOUSE IS FULL WHEN YOU HAVE A CHANCE TO HAVE LUNCH/DINNER CHAT, AND SO ON.
