ECS is seeking a Research Associate to work in our Silver Spring, MD (zip
code 20910) office.
Job Description:
ECS Federal, Inc. has an immediate opening for a Research Associate to
support the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) Office of Science and
Technology, Fisheries Statistics Division. The physical location of this
Office is in Silver Spring, MD. The primary responsibilities include:
• Survey Design and Estimation – Support development and statistical
evaluation tasks related to design and estimation in recreational fishing
effort and catch surveys and pilot projects.
• Survey Data Analysis – Support research and evaluation projects
involving statistical analysis of survey data.
• Monitor Survey Performance – Support development of statistical
methods to identify deficiencies or potential improvements in survey
operations.
• Quality Control, Auditing, and Editing of Survey Data – Support
development of statistical methods and automated programs to improve survey
data quality by identifying errors and deficiencies in survey data.
• Data Dissemination – Facilitate custom analysis of survey data by
external data users through continued maintenance and development of public-
use survey datasets and template estimation programs.
• Communications with Survey Contractors, State Partners, and
Interstate Commission Partners –Communicate with contractors, states, and
interstate commissions to facilitate fisheries survey operations.
• Document Survey Operations – Document current or new procedures or
protocols for sample selection, data collection, data processing, and/or
statistical estimation.
Required Skills:
• Bachelor’s of Science degree in mathematics, statistics or a
related field.
• 8 years of experience performing survey operations tasks
including sample size calculation, sample selection, sample weight
calculation, and weighted estimation.
• Experience programming in SAS using macros, experience with SAS/
Stat, including survey procedures, and SAS/Graph.
• Good record keeping skills.
• Advanced level of SAS programming skills is required. Excellent
writing and communication skills.
• Good organization and people skills.
• Motivated, proactive, and a self-starter.
• Organized and process oriented with an attention to detail.
Desired Skills:
• Advanced degree in sampling statistics, survey methodology, or a
related field preferred.
• Knowledge and background in fisheries a plus. |
