A big change in tax policy will change people's saving/spending habbit.
It is not so easy to make such a move like you wanted, no offence (but maybe
you did not take too many high level classes in economy).
The best way is to make a good policy and stick with it for long time.
Tax is not just for government to get money, it is also used in a way to
redistribute wealth in a society (among one of its many uses)
I don't want to start a big debate here, because that can go on for long
time and we will never get anywhere.
If you want flat tax without any deductions/credits, you can certainly read
more about it online, many people have argued both ways, but it is very
unlikely for it to become US tax policy in the near future.
Current tax policy and deductions/credits are carefully designed to
influence human behavior (not just as simple as a way to collect money) Many
decisions (both personal and business) are based tax policies, and some can
take years to benefit, a sudden change like you wanted will be very unfair
to the people that follow the laws and rules for years.
Just like I said, this is not the right forum to start a debate, maybe you
can post in tax board, I am sure there are more experts there.
