我J2刚拿到一个博后offer，但学校国际中心的人说我爱人的J1快到期，而且办了豁免
不能延期，因此我受24-month bar的限制在J1项目结束两年内不能转。我现在就算用
EAD工作也只能干不到半年，然后就得转H4不能工作了。很郁闷，希望能有有经验人士
帮忙给点建议。
从国际中心提供的材料看，这个限制似乎是挺严的，但我在网上查了很久也只看到一例
类似的情况，但还不清楚问题最后有没有解决。
另外在美国驻中国大使馆签证10年4月20日的网聊记录中，有位曾持J2探亲回国的人问
签证官她能否签J1，受不受12-month bar和24-month bar的限制。签证官说可以申请J1
，但没提12-month bar或24-month bar。这位J2虽然没说她先生J1的类别，但提到共5
年有效期，还剩2年，那么按我这里国际中心的说法，她应该也受24-month bar限制才
对。我跟国际中心的人提到这件事，他们说We are completely confident that our
interpretation of the 24-month bar is correct.

obligation under INA 212(e). There is no waiver
for the 24-month repeat bar imposed on J-1 research
scholars and professors and their spouses under
22 CFR 62.20(i)(2).

matter whether your spouse is still in J-1 RS
status or already changed to H-1B. If your
spouse is still in J-1 status and the DS-2019
is valid until 2012/01, then it is expected
that you will not be able to change to J-1 RS
status until 2014/01. If your spouse ends
his/her J-1 RS status sooner (e.g., 2011/10),
then that just moves the end of the 24-month
bar ahead (e.g., to 2013/10). Read again
Note 4 under that table, it is clear that the
U.S. Dept. of State does not want individuals
flip-flopping between J-1 RS and J-2 status
and vice versa.

are usually in the U.S. to observe, consult, or
demonstrate special skills in the fields of "mass
media communication, environmental science, youth
leadership, international educational exchange,
museum exhibitions, labor law, public
administration, and library science". J-1
specialists are not allowed to perform research or
other scholastic activities per 22 CFR 62.26(a)(1).
J-1 specialists are limited to a one-year exchange.
