Gov. Tim Kaine told General Assembly budget-writers this morning
that Virginia faces a revenue shortfall of $1.5 billion, requiring
more cuts to the state budget.
“They will be painful to those who rely on public services at
this very challenging time,” Kaine said in a speech to the
legislature’s money committees.
Kaine said lingering economic weakness led him to reduce projected
revenue for the current fiscal year by about $1.2 billion,

Governor Tim Kaine announced plans to cut
the state's budget Wednesday.
It's the fourth time in less than a year that Kaine
has had to scale back the two-year budget that runs
through next June.
On Wednesday, Kaine said the state has made some tough
choices, and more tough choices are ahead. But he said
the state is "well-positioned" to weather the downturn
in the economy.
Kaine said this re-forecast will require the state to
close a revenue gap of approximately $1.5 billion.
