it seems that many people think that China would be held accountable if it
was a lab leak.
I disagree with this notion.
Even if covid came from a lab leak, it could come from an overlooked pathway
. For example, China claim that they monitor the symptoms of the researchers
. We know covid can spread asymptomatically, so maybe "patient zero" is
asymptomatic. If China truly does not know the origin based on their data,
they do not have any responsibility for the spread of the disease.
On the other hand, even if the virus is naturally originated, if China
concealed early cases for months despite they knew about it, they should be
held accountable for their behavior.
So it came down to this question: When did China know? Did they, within only
reasonable delays, inform the WHO and international communities about their
findings?
As we see here, this is really not a "scientific" question. Finding the
responsibility of China has always been a political one. |
