Did you or someone you know decline US citizenship? Why?

Two thirds of immgrants to America don’t take up American citizenship -
myself included.
The answer is simple. I would lose my German citizenship, and my German
citizenship is a lot more valuable to me than American citizenship. German
citizenship allows me to live in the EU (which has a lot more to offer than
the US).
I desperatedly wanted to live in the US because I thought I would flourish
there. OMG. I couldn’t believe how third world it was. The conditions in
America more closely resemble those of the third world than the first world
(and I have spent a lot of time in both).
It didn’t help that there was no work that paid me a living wage. Or paid
me at all. As a writer, I kept having people ‘employ’ me, and when I asked
for salary, they would say, “Oh, there isn’t a salary.” Wtf did they
expect me to live on? And why would I want a job if I wasn’t paid?
All third world countries have highly built up cities - this is not what
makes a country third world.
What makes a country third world is the lack of resources and facilites that
are supplied by government. All first world countries, with the exception
of America, are Democratic Socialist (mixed economies). They provide
exceptional public transport, free or cheap medical services, free education
, free services for pensioners (seniors). In both England and Scotland, I
travel free on buses.
That said, those from third world countries don’t take up citizenship
because it costs too much and the exams are in English. Those from first
world countries don’t take up American citizenship because their own
countries have a lot more to offer.
There has been reverse immigration in the States for some time - more people
are leaving than arriving.

I do know of others who won’t take up American citizenship. As with all
countries in the world, immigrants are perfectly able to live in America
with ‘permanent residency.’ It just means one can’t vote and one cannot
have various social services. |
