Brett Kavanaugh, confirmed on Monday that his client has spoken to the FBI
as part of its probe into allegations of sexual misconduct against Kavanaugh.
Eric Bruce, the attorney representing Smyth, said in a statement that Smyth
reiterated his previous claim that he does not remember the party where
Christine Blasey Ford claims Kavanaugh attacked her.
ord has named Smyth as another attendee at the 1982 party.
"Patrick J. Smyth has fully cooperated with the FBI investigation in this
matter," Bruce said in the statement obtained by The Hill.
"He truthfully answered every question the FBI asked him and, consistent
with the information he previously provided to the Senate Judiciary
Committee, he indicated that he has no knowledge of the small party or
gathering described by Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, nor does he have any
knowledge of the allegations of improper conduct she has leveled against
Brett Kavanaugh," the statement concluded.
The statement came hours after The New York Times reported the White House
has given the FBI free reign to interview any relevant witnesses in the
probe as long as the bureau finishes the investigation this week.
Ford during her testimony at last week's Senate Judiciary Committee hearing
said Smyth was at the party in question. She said she remembers she wished
Smyth would hear her when she screamed as Kavanaugh allegedly attacked her.
Many of those who Ford has named as other attendees have released statements
saying they do not recall the party.
The FBI investigation is reportedly looking into Ford's claims as well as
the allegation from Deborah Ramirez, a woman who accused Kavanaugh of
exposing himself and thrusting his penis in her face during a gathering at
Yale University in the 1980s.
It is unclear if the probe will touch on allegations from a third woman,
Julie Swetnick, who claimed in sworn testimony last week that she saw
Kavanaugh grope and harass women at parties in high school. She also said
Kavanaugh attended a party where she was drugged and raped by multiple men.
Kavanaugh has forcefully denied all of the allegations.
Trump said on Monday that he would support the FBI investigating Swetnick's
claims. |
