There were 15,070 murder victims. 73% of these deaths involved firearms (
mostly handguns). That makes about 11,000 people killed by guns for the
whole year. In a country with over 320 million people. (I’m leaving
suicides out, as the method is immaterial.)
Doing the math, a little over 30 people per day were killed by firearms.
In 2016, 37,461 people in the US were killed by motor vehicles. That’s well
over 102 people per day.
