An 18-year-old man described as a “person of interest” in the sexual
assault and brutal beating death of an 86-year-old woman on Wednesday on the
running track at Highlands High School has been arrested on a similar,
unrelated charge.
The attack at the high school occurred about 6 a.m. Wednesday when the 86-
year-old woman and her 61-year-old friend were attacked by a suspect who
witnesses believed was a man in his 30s.
For the first time, Sacramento County Sheriff’s investigators revealed that
both of the women on the Highlands track were sexually assaulted before the
man physically attacked them.
Sacramento County Sheriff’s spokesman Tony Turnbull said that the sexual
assault was the motive for the attack.
