traffic on those routes down 2.2 percent year over year in March. United's
falloff in trans-Atlantic traffic was relatively small, however, compared to
that on American Airlines (NASDAQ: AAL).
AA said this morning that its trans-Atlantic traffic in March was down a
whopping 8.3 percent year over year, suggesting that Europeans are traveling
to the United States in markedly smaller numbers. And more Americans may be
opting for domestic vacations over European adventures with global
terrorism still much in the headlines.
For United, traffic on Latin American routes in March also was down 4.2
percent. The one bright spot was trans-Pacific, where traffic was up 3.5
percent year over year in March. |
