I had a Trump supporter offer to sodomize me with his Trump yard sign. He
was of the opinion that I, a white woman, shouldn’t have married a Chinese
man, and that I therefore needed a demonstration of what a “real man” is
like.
I’m sorry, but I do not know how to empathize with someone who thinks it is
perfectly acceptable to make threats like this against another person. I do
not know how to let someone else threaten to violate me sexually and then
smile prettily for him and praise his drollery.
I don’t know how to feel comradeship with people who spit in my husband’s
face and demand to know when he, a native-born US citizen, will be going
back to his own country. I do not know how to nod sympathetically when they
accuse him of stealing a job from a “real American.” Given that he has a
PhD in mechanical engineering and advises the US military on air vehicle
survivability, among other things, I wonder how exactly they think a “real
American” of the variety they envision would be able to do a job like his.
Why do I have a hard time empathizing with Trump supporters? Because I place
a high premium on human decency.
I guess it must be a personal failing of mine. |
