Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake reaffirmed Baltimore Thursday as a "welcoming
city" for immigrants and refugees where police will not check citizenship
status.
Her administration is publishing a community guide offering resources and
telling immigrants "do not panic." It is also coordinating "immigration
clinics." Rawlings-Blake said the actions are in response to fear in the
city after Republican Donald Trump's election to the White House.
"We are creating a very scary environment for new Americans and native[-born
] Americans, alike," Rawlings-Blake said. "We want to be a safe country,
absolutely. The efforts that were touted during the election were not about
us being safe. It was about dividing our country, and that is what we're
