A Texas police organization is demanding an apology from a former NFL
player who reportedly claimed on social media that a cop put a gun to his
face during a recent traffic stop — but the Pearland Police Officer’s
Association said that dashcam footage shows the officer acting properly.
The group claims that Lamar Lathon, 47, a linebacker who played for the
Houston Oilers and the Carolina Panthers, lied about what unfolded in a
Facebook post in which the former NFL player said that he was terrified and
that he feared for his life, KHOU-TV reported.
Footage from the September 1 incident, which was posted to the Pearland
Police Department’s Facebook page on Thursday in an effort to dispel claims
that the officer acted improperly, shows a cop pulling Lathon over for
going 65 mph in a 50 mph area before asking for his license.
When the ex-NFL player reached under his seat, the officer repeatedly
asked him to stop and, when he didn’t, the cop pulled his gun out, KTRK-TV
reported.
In a detailed Facebook post explaining the situation, the Pearland
Police Department said that Lathon repeatedly ignored orders, and said that
after reviewing the footage, the department found the cop’s actions “
professional and within both the law and policies of this agency.”
“In the video, the officer was then clearly heard giving the driver
three distinct orders not to reach under his seat,” a description read. “
When the orders were ignored by the driver, the officer unholstered his
weapon and held it at a low ready position near the driver’s door in
preparation for the possibility of the driver drawing a weapon from under
the seat.” | j*****v 发帖数: 7717 | | a*********a 发帖数: 3656 | 3 hands up don't shoot.
