Wendy Davis and her supporters are trying to suggest that her Republican
opponent for Texas Governor, Greg Abbott, would have been against
interracial marriage.
Here's Wendy Davis:
Greg Abbott won't say whether he'd defend an interracial marriage ban—
troubling but not surprising from someone who defends a "poll tax."

Oh snap, guys! You got him! He didn’t answer a hypothetical question, so he
must be against it!
The suggestion that Abbott would somehow be uncomfortable with marriage
among different racial or ethic groups is absurd. Cecilia Abbott, his wife,
is the granddaughter of Mexican immigrants and the Texas Tribune has
reported that — in the event of an Abbott victory — she would be "the
first Latina to be the first lady of Texas."
The hypothetical “gotcha” came when the San Antonio Express-News editorial
board asked Abbott if he would have opposed interracial marriage 50 years
ago if he had been the Texas attorney general at that time.
“Right now, if there was a ban on interracial marriage, that’s already
been ruled unconstitutional,” Abbott responded. “And all I can do is deal
with the issues that are before me. ... The job of an attorney general is to
represent and defend in court the laws of their client, which is the state
Legislature, unless and until a court strikes it down.”
Abbott was then pressed by the Express-News editorial board about not
answering the question.
“Actually, the reason why you’re uncertain about it is because I didn’t
answer the question,” Abbott admitted. “And I can’t go back and answer
some hypothetical question like that.”
Keep trying, Davis camp. |
