Anyone paying attention to all the jobs being cut in those swing states
Obama won? Not only is unemployment surging and the market plummeting, major
companies are announcing layoffs seemingly by the hour. But none of this
has anything to do, of course, with Obama’s re-election. And now the folks
in Virginia are also falling victim. I’d pity them but they cast their lot
with an economic catastrophe, and now they shall suffer.
Smithfield Foods Inc. said Wednesday that it will begin its previously
announced shutdown of a Virginia facility that makes hot dogs and deli meat.
The Smithfield, Va.-based company said layoffs will start at the
Portsmouth plant in January and it will close at the end of March. The first
layoffs at the Smithfield Packing Co. facility will involve about 120
workers, with more than 400 workers affected by the time plant is closed,
said Jeff Gough, Smithfield’s senior vice president for human resources.
Employees have been offered transfer opportunities.
In a bid to spread the misery evenly, an Illinois company also announced 567
jobs will be terminated, while another 1500 in swing-state Ohio will be
gone. Connecticut-based Xerox also will be slashing 2500 jobs. Good times.
Obama’s union thugs, meanwhile, threaten the closing of Hostess plants. No
