The problem which all societies suckled by big government must eventually
confront is that the teat does run dry. When mama dries up the child is
usually ready to start his journey toward independence. But societies of
men and women have no desire for independence once they’ve been enervated
by the nanny state. They want to hang on to the stuff they’re entitled to.
We paid for it, so it belongs to us!
Sadly, that’s not the case. And if you had been paying for a government
service and now had the chance to get that service in the free market, you’
d be nuts not to make the switch.
The nanny state eventually drives out a lot of the producers and then uses
up all its credit. And in doing so, it attracts legions of folk with a hand
full of gimmee and mouth full of much obliged. Nothing attracts freeloaders
like free stuff!
When the teat goes dry, it’s too late to protest for more of mother’s milk
but that’s what is happening across Euroland. The union thugs from Spain,
Portugal, France, Italy, and Greece shut down airports, car factories, rail
lines, and ports. It is all part of a European Day of Action and Solidarity.
We’re on strike to stop these suicidal policies, said Candido Mendez,
head of Spain’s second-biggest labour federation.
Poor Candido thinks that prosperity is something you can demand!
The protesters in Spain vandalized storefronts and jammed cash machines with
glue and coins. I would think that a man facing austerity would have saved
those coins for his children’s breakfast. There’s no fool like a socialist!
Well, no expects much of the man in the street. Surely, the rulers must have
more sense. Spain’s Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy is not asking for
European aid because it require more budget cuts. Spain, by his admission,
is going down the sinkhole but he will not cut spending to prevent it. And
the thought that borrowing more money in the form of EU aid could possibly
be the answer to too much debt is shocking to a rational mind! Rajoy wants
more borrowing but only if he can keep spending!
With unemployment in the Eurozone running at nearly 12%, and over 25% in the
southern parts of that benighted union, folks are lucky to have a job. How
losing a day’s pay the workers or the welfare cases is unknown to science.
Yet, the post-rational mind of the socialist holds out hope.
We have to leave something better for our children, said Rocio Blanco, a
railway worker on the picket line at Madrid’s main rail station.
I’m sure Rocio didn’t mean it this way but if his little protest finally
brings an end to the nanny-state, his kids will have a chance at a better
future. No guarantees of course; just an opportunity to succeed, instead of
guaranteed failure as an impoverished socialist.
It is Almost Midnight in the West for the Nanny-State. We folks in North
America should not be smug. This is headed our way. We’re bankrupt! But
let’s be smart. No protests! Let’s just get to work becoming self-
sufficient. Let’s show the world what good American stock can do. |
