National Public Radio's president and chief executive, Vivian Schiller,
resigned Wednesday morning in the wake of a scandal over a subordinate's
taped remarks to a conservative activist.
The move comes a day after the head of NPR's fund-raising arm, Ron Schiller,
resigned. Mr. Schiller (who isn't related to Vivian Schiller) was caught on
video making disparaging remarks about the Republican Party and the tea-
party movement, and questioning whether NPR needs U.S. government funding.
Mr. Schiller made the remarks during a lunch with men posing as members of a
Muslim organization. They later turned out to have been working with
political activist James O'Keefe in a "sting."
Ms. Schiller's exit comes after she was blasted last year for NPR's handling
of the Juan Williams incident. Mr. Williams, a news analyst, was fired
after comments he made on Fox News about being nervous around Muslims on an
airplane. Republican members of Congress subsequently called for a re-
examination of the news organization's federal funding.
NPR's Chairman, Dave Edwards, said in a statement Wednesday that Ms.
Schiller's resignation was accepted "with understanding, genuine regret, and
great respect for her leadership of NPR these past two years." The
resignation is effective immediately.

NPR media correspondent David Falkenflik said in a tweet that Ms. Schiller
was forced out by the board, saying that Ms. Schiller set the tone by saying
the board "should take any action it felt necessary."
NPR's board must now launch into the challenging process of finding a
successor for Ms. Schiller. NPR said Joyce Slocum, senior vice president of
legal affairs and general counsel, will serve as interim CEO.
In the video that surfaced Tuesday morning, Mr. Schiller and a colleague are
shown meeting two men in a café pretending to be from the fictitious
Muslim Education Action Center.
The men say they are considering donating as much as $5 million to NPR
because of what they describe as the substantial "Zionist coverage" by other
news organizations.
During the lunch, Mr. Schiller says the Republican Party has been "hijacked"
by groups hostile to Muslims. One of the "Muslim Center" men asks "The
radical, racist, Islamophobic, tea-party people?" Mr. Schiller responds,
nodding, "And not just Islamaphobic but really xenophobic. I mean basically,
they are, they believe in sort of white, middle-America, gun toting. I mean
, it's scary. They're seriously racist people."
Mr. Schiller had announced last week that he would soon leave for another
job. But on Tuesday night, he released a statement saying that he and NPR
had agreed to make the resignation effective immediately.

NPR local station in Cleveland has 140 in its payrolls but never heard much
from it on national programs other than those Boston/SF stations. They get
more than enough to operate but still "need your donation" every damned
year! And all the money just goes to cook their shady dark ideology of
hatred and liberal extremist and embracing muslims.
US should pull the plug on this one.
NPR has been on top of my daily commute radio favorites until they fully
revealed their teeth in 2008 election. Before that I thought it's pretty
moderate and caring about global issues. How wrong was I?

for that! Then, under "pressure" Ron Schilling issued a statement claiming
what he said on the video is against his "belief" !!!
Not again!
It's really ridiculous as it comes - after swarmed by million lies everyday,
you thought you found one truth then they threw another lie to cover it!
