Do not peek at the answer at the lower right corner, which in the print of

No matter how you spin it. anybody who can not solve this problem in 1
minute is obviously not qualified to teach in middle schools - maybe OK in a
Negro school... I surely would not want this kind of people to teach my
kids.

Well, my humble confession.
I was good at mathematics back in Taiwan. HOWEVER, I am rusty now. Very much
so. I even forgot a 30-60-90 triangle. So it took me about five minutes (at
least) this morning.

"This is junior school stuff."
True, I learned it at junior high in Taiwan, but that was decades ago.

Let me make it clear.
I agree with you that the question should be solved in a minute. A
standardized test usually allows you that much time for each question. That
is why I knew I flunked the test when it took me more than a minute.

Sure, your candidness is appreciated. :-)
I actually tested three 8th graders yesterday with the problem, one black
girl, two white boys.
The black girl had no clue how to solve it whatsoever;
The first white boy gave up after about 2 minutes;
The second white boy, who is a good one (evidenced by getting admission to
Bronx Science), solved it after 4 minutes.
All students are from a very good public school in Manhattan.

That
