to obey them, but then they are not a government, so you can't sue them over
constitutionality.
I just wonder what part of a flagpole isn't "atheistically appropriate."

initial HOA contract, the house owner pretty much can't do much against it
unless the owner works through the HOA meeting and administration system to
get his opinion followed.

I guess there wasn't anything wrong with HOA in the beginning -
when a new owner would normally be presented with the HOA terms before
they would sign on the contract.
These days the HOA agreement is
usually an after-thought - literally, like, on the day you settle your house,
in the pile of 218 documents you need to sign, "oh here's the HOA thing
by the way, just sign it and accept that you aren't gonna be able to put
up so much as a snowman in your backyard without HOA approval."
