write in English. Hopefully I can convey my thoughts clearly.
Today I am reading a book on service innovation. it says in a goodscentric
view, the ownership of goods is a goal in itself. I suddenly realized that
up until now, the ownership of money is my primary goal, rather than the
enjoyment that money can bring to me. I save money instinctively, a habit
caused by the poor and harsh life I experienced in the past. For example, I
would rather spend hours filling out a tax form than pay an accountant to do
it for me. I would rather trouble myself to park my car than pay for valet
parking. I would rather swallow the disappointment brought by a poor
hairdresser than spend more to get a better hair cut. Because of this, I
have accumulated a lot of money. However, that money does not bring me a
better life. The only utility of money for me is the feeling of safety
knowing that I have more and more money. However, that feeling is very
unreliable and unstable. if there is stock market crash, a natural disaster
or social upheaval, the money might dramatically decrease or be robbed away.
I remember a story told by a Chinese folk. He saw an American guy with very
good manner, pleasant and artistic disposition, seems very well educated and
brought up. He thought that guy might have a lot of money. However, it
turns out that guy cannot even afford some groceries and have to put them
back. Then this Chinese men started to despise that American guy: what is
the use of good looking and disposition? can't even afford groceries.
Nevertheless, what is the use of a lot money? that American guy might have
spent all of his money on pleasures, enjoyment, or gaining knowledge and
skills. On the other hand, look at many people like me, what do I have other
than the number of dollars?
Money is a kind of goods. I am still in the old mindset of owning good as my
primary goal. people in the developed countries has gone beyond this and
considered enjoying from various services as the primary goal. I might need
to adapt my life a little bit. | C*********X
