The Technical Support Engineer (TSE) is responsible for support of the
Client Network Control Products. The TSE is responsible for identifying
issues, recreating/identifying failed software/hardware components and
implement the optimum method for the problem resolution. The key success
factors for this position include: ability to work closely with the
customer’s technical team and IT departments, excellent problem abilities,
rigorous attention to detail, and commitment to high quality.
JOB DUTIES INCLUDE:
· Support, install and configure Client Network Control products (i
.e. SCADA/EMS/DMS )
· Recreate software issues on in-factory support equipment
· Import, configure and install systems as they exist at the
customer sites on factor equipment in order to recreate reported customer
issues
· Installation and configuration of Linux and Windows operating
systems
· Prepare and perform confidence testing to verify software
releases
· Work directly with customers to verify that the defect
corrections provided in releases resolves reported customer issues
· Prepare and perform customer training and workshops
· Contribute, review and approve software release documents
· Regularly interface with the Product Development, Product
Management and Professional Services organizations to obtain accurate
answers to customer inquiries and to ensure that Client provides effective
solutions to reported issues
· Strive for continuous improvement of methods, processes,
productivity and quality, while reducing costs
· There will be travels requirements of up to 25% of the time
REQUIRED SKILLS:
Working knowledge of Oracle database administration
Conceptual understanding of Java programming
Ability to understand and program using multiple scripting languages i.e
. (PowerShell, vbs, Linux shell, Perl, etc.)
Basic understanding of the RedHat Linux operating system
Basic understanding of Windows Operating systems (XP, Windows 7, Server
2003, Server 2008) including Active Directory, DNS, and Group Policy
A basic understanding of TCP/IP networking
The ability to work with and troubleshoot server hardware issues
Ability to prepare and conduct technical training for internal and
customer personnel, in a clear and effective manner
Ability to work within established procedures, methodology and
guidelines on a continuous basis
Ability to improve established procedures, methodologies and guidelines
Strong technical writing and editing skills
Strong analytical and problem solving skills
Good organizational skills and ability to prioritize multiple tasks in
order to meet schedules
Ability to function independently in a fast-paced environment with tight
deadlines
Ability to support multiple customers concurrently
Proficient in basic Microsoft Office products
DESIRED SKILLS:
Knowledge of Distribution and Outage Management Systems
In depth knowledge of Oracle as evidenced through work experience as an
Oracle DBA
Proficiency in Java programming and experience with Java based
development processes
Understanding of Oracle Application Server configurations and
maintenance
Knowledge of Application Lifecycle management processes and tools, (
Change management, Software Configuration Management, Software Testing,
Issue Management, etc)
Proficiency in multiple scripting languages such as Perl, bash, ksh and
csh.
A basic understanding of real time SCADA systems within the electric
utility industry.
A basic knowledge of configuring and working with networking hardware (
Cisco switchs, routers and firewalls)
A basic knowledge of configuring and working with virtual machines (VMs)
A basic knowledge of configuring and working with Storage Area Networks
(SANs)
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer
Science or related discipline or evaluated equivalent experience.
EXPERIENCE: Experience in the electric utility industry is preferred. |
