r*****y 发帖数: 507 | 1 I saw some many funny people around this board. I would like to post some
facts to make some comparisons and try to clear up some shits here.
(I) Recently, Carnegie foundation upgrade UH to the fourth tier-one
universities in Texas (UT-Austin, A&M, Rice and UH now).

(II) UH and Rice both do NOT have a medical school. So, it is kind of fair
to compare.
(1) Faculty size (only count full-time tenure and tenure-track):
Rice: 523 (Fall 2009)
http://www.professor.rice.edu/professor/Appointments_and_Positi
UH: 933
http://www.uh.edu/about/uh-glance/facts-figures/index.php
Note: UH covers a lot more majors than Rice. Many UH majors are not offered
at Rice (such as school of law, school of hotel management, school of social
work, school of education, etc. etc.). I don't have time to count exact
head counts in sci & engineering fields at both Rice and UH. But I can
imagine UH might have slightly more full-time head counts.
(2) current active NSF awards http://www.nsf.gov/awardsearch/:
Rice: 232
UH: 169
(3) current active NIH awards http://projectreporter.nih.gov/reporter.cfm
Rice: 71 awards
UH: 93 awards
(4) total annual research awards/expenditure
Note: NSF and NIH awards can be publicly searched, but other agencies (such
as DoD and DOE) do not have such public resources. So, let's look at "the
total annual research expenditure". I will try to use the latest data
publicly available on the web.
Rice (FY 2009): slightly less than $90 millions. (cannot find its FY2010
data online)
refer to Page #14 at http://research.rice.edu/forms/annualReports/FY09AnnualReport.pdf
UH (FY 2010): about $99 millions (cannot find its FY2009 data)
Refer to the top place at http://uh.edu/president/communications/university-community/fall-address-highlights/
Rice
2653 | 6 Because Dr.Deng is an assistant professor in the Department of Computer
Science at UH. |
