That is how the author of the above article is describing Djokovic and Nadal
in the 2nd paragraph below. Why?
"During 2011 when the Great Djokovic and the Notorious Nadal encountered in
6 finals matches, Djokovic prevailed every time. It looks like 2012 won’t
be much different. For years (what feels like ages) the big tennis rivalry
was all about Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer. During the 2011 season the new
Djokovic/Nadal rivalry was proposed but few people wanted to believe it." | f*********e 发帖数: 8453 | 2 notorious
adjective
1.
widely and unfavorably known: a notorious gambler. Synonyms: infamous,
egregious, outrageous, arrant, flagrant, disreputable.
2.
publicly or generally known, as for a particular trait: a newspaper that is
notorious for its sensationalism. Synonyms: notable, renowned, celebrated,
prominent, conspicuous, famous, widely known.
我觉得作者是指第二个意思。

seem to
be recognized by many other dictionary sources like,
Wiktionary,
Webster's New World College Dictionary, 4th Ed
Cambridge Advanced Learner's Dictionary
Cambridge Dictionary of American English
and many others,
They all point to one meaning. That is:
famous for something immoral or bad
that
is
celebrated,

A well known tennis web site publishes an article using such two
contrasting
adjectives to describe the current No.1 and No.2 ATP players. Don't think
that is a legitimate topic worthy of discussion in this forum?
