If you can legally file for 1040 (NOT 1040NR), and stay in U.S. over
183 days for 2009, you can get $8,000 (provided it does not exceed 10% of
the house's contractual sales value) from the FED if you are the first time
home buyer. A green card, even a H1b, is not mandatory. Just make sure to
close by Nov 30, 2009. The best part, it is "refundable". E.g. if you were
supposed to pay $2000 tax in 2009, you will get a $6,000 IRS refund check
