i*****u 发帖数: 776 | 1 I am a post-doc (H1B, resident alien for tax purpose) working at a public
university. My university does not participate in Social Security tax system
, so I am not paying SS tax. Instead, my university works with TIAA-CREF to
do retirement accounts for employees. Basically, 10% of my monthly salary (
pre-tax basis) goes into this Retirement account and my university put
another 14% into it. Nowhere my university mentions this is a 401k. I am
thinking this is a 401k, rather than a IRA, correct? | i*****u 发帖数: 776 | | i*****u 发帖数: 776 | 3 Some updates of my own findings.
Looks like my retirement plan is not 401k, IRA, or 403b, because my
retirement plan is mandatory. 401k or 403b should be elective/optional, in
order to enjoy the Retirement savings contributions credit (Line 51 of 1040).
Any comments are welcomed. | z*****8 发帖数: 3043 | |
