发帖数: 7276 | 1 The first summer season of competitive swimming ended yesterday for my 7y
and 5y olds. Here is the summary:
In the county wide swim conference finals ( 15 swim clubs, more than 1000
swimmers),
my 7y old (7~8 age group) has got
1st place in 25x4 mixed medlay relay ( he swims butterfly), total time 1'16''
6th place in butterfly( 18.9s)
8th place in freestyle(17.14s)
He did not swim the other two strokes because leagues limit each swimmer to
2 strokes.
My 5y old ( 5~6 age group) has got

How did you guys get started? Do you have private lessons? How often do they
swim? What do you think the swimming classes at the Y?
I have a 5 years old son that won’t listen whenever I try to teach him. It
is pretty frustrating |

发帖数: 489 | 7 My son took a two-week swimming lesson and was able to swim 25 yard
unassisted. He then joined the local swim club at the age of 7. Initially he
swam 3-4 times a week, 45 minute per session. He improved rather rapidly
and moved to a higher-level group and now practices 1.5 hours per session, 4
-6 sessions/week,and recently start swimming competitively. He is 8 now. I
just posted his recent swim videos in another thread.
You need to get him into a club. The parent taught route normally does not

发帖数: 7276 | 8 Just my 2 cents. If you want your kids to seriously swim, then private coach
and swim club training are necessary. Swim club training is for quantity (
endurance), and coach teaching is for quality (stroke skills). My sons' club
doesn't teach too many details about skills because there are hundreds of
kids. So private coach is important. In a club, kids will have some peer
pressure when they are training, they normally will strictly follow coaches'

好嫌慕像8英里这样的老爸，可以自己教。

发帖数: 7276 | 11 My free,back and breast stroke are almost at the same speed of my 7y. For
butterfly, I didn't even try to race with him. My 30 years' swimming history
(10 times per year on average) cannot beat my son's 4 months of training..

I'm a pretty strong swimmer (non competitive sense), comfortable with all
strokes. I just recently picked up swimming again because of knee issues. I
used to play a lot of basketball, soccer.
I always felt it would be really cool to be able to teach my son all the
sports I play. Well, may be a private couch is a better way to improve his
stroke. I will also try to enroll him in a program at the Y.
It is great that the sons and draughts of some of the folks
