if the Dow is higher, it means the major stocks are higher, which also
means the institutions have more confidence in putting money in the stock
market than in the bond market or liquidate to cash.
Not all stocks will go with the trend of Dow, such as some of the tech
stocks, and penny stocks which operate on pump and dump or short squeeze,
those are not affected.

DOW is the oldest stock index. It's a classic. Since it consists of only 30
major blue chips, it could not cover the broad market. But I believe that it
's a good quick snapshot of the health of the US economy.
If you want broader market coverage, go for S&P500.
Every stocks is different. It may or may not track the DOW movement. Do your
homework. Make investment based on your comfortable risk and reward ratio.

SPY is more like the global economy, given so many global conglomerates in
it.
Dow stands for large cap, high div yield, mature companies.

Have u ever seen DOW is up when US economy is bad and vice versa?
Can you read simple English? Did I say DOW is the best index to reflect US
economy? I don't believe Russell 2000 is a better index either. But calling
