Robin Williams used a belt to hang himself from a bedroom door in an
apparent suicide, said Lt. Keith Boyd, chief deputy coroner for Marin County
Sheriff's Office on Tuesday. Williams' body was found by his personal
assistant on Monday morning with a belt around his neck in the bedroom of
his home in Tiburon, California, according to Boyd.
The assistant forced his way into the room after Williams did not respond
and was found "suspended from the belt which was wedged between the door and
the door frame in a seated position slightly suspended off the ground,"
said authorities, according to media reports. The actor and comedian was
battling "severe depression of late" according to his publicist. Williams
died at the age of 63 and is survived by his wife and three children.
