California’s push for automakers to sell non-polluting cars and trucks is
broadening as New York, Massachusetts, Oregon and four other states join in
an effort to get 3.3 million “zero-emission” vehicles on the road.
The eight-state coalition, which also includes Vermont, Maryland,
Connecticut and Rhode Island, said in a statement today it will push for the
numerical target by 2025, more than doubling California’s 1.5-million-car
goal. While California buyers of plug-in hybrids, battery and hydrogen fuel-
cell autos get incentives such as rebates, the seven other states didn’t
announce specific enticements.
