SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Apple Inc. /quotes/zigman/68270/quotes/nls/
aapl AAPL +0.46% sent out invitations to various media outlets on Tuesday,
announcing an event in San Francisco on Sept. 12 for what most expect will
be the next update to its popular iPhone. No details on the invitation were
given, in keeping with the company's secretive policy about new product
announcemets. Apple's shares remained unchanged as the event was announced,
trading up about 0.4% at $667.73, as the date had already been reported
previously by several news organizations. The new iPhone is expected to lead
several new smartphone launches this fall from manufacturers such as Nokia
