I think PANL has an important portfolio for mobile as well since all
mobile devices with displays will, in the fairly near future will need their
IP. They (Universal DIsplay) will be collecting enormous fees or royalties
on all AMOLED displays from virtually all smart phones and other mobile apps
, including iPhone is expected circa 2012 to be converting to AMOLED as well
. LG will be producing lighting and TVs with their technology (which is
based on electro-phosphorescence - the biggest advance in lighting since T.
A. Edison because it converts all the electricity into light giving off no
heat). In addition they recently achieved and exceeded by 20% the commercial
standard target for efficiencies and lifetime (target date was 2015) set by
the DOE for OLED lighting (3000 candelas for 10000 hours) and the DOE,
phasing out incandescant bulbs, expects this technology to replace all
lighting by 2020. Due to its inherent efficiencies, the conversion is
expected to reduce energy consumption by 20% in the USA. SO PANL's (the
symbol for UDC) tech will not only be in all mobile devices, but practically
anything with a display, and all lighting. Samsung has just inked a license
of their tech through 2017. LG is next. In fact after this year any new
revenue will be pure profit margin because the samsung deal alone will bring
them into the black. Forbes yesterday just published an article to this
effect. I have been in and out of this stock. I had sold ("pre-samsung-deal"
at 35). But I bought back in at 40 for a long term hold due to the
implications of the deal, and a higher certainty that others will follow. In
general, patents are undervalued since they are sooooo hard to read and so
they are poorly understood by the general public. PANL also holds the
fundamental patents for flexible and transparent displays, and some
incredible organic electronics tech. The fundamentals to support this price
is confusing to day traders so it has been heavily shorted. I think they are
on the wrong side of the coin. The flood gates to very high cash flow have
begun to open (they have been cash flow positive for 3 quarters and have no
debt and over 300 million in cash as a war chest). This fundamentals will be
there. I view it as a similar story to Virnetx. Some expectation is built
in, but definitely not all. These could be the next Apples! Finally the
investment community is catching on, Patents aren't just files of paper! |
